Since Translation Studies have brought theoritical insights into the process of developing a critical language awareness, they have an important role to play in the field of Applied Linguistics. The mythology of translation, however, all too often compares the plight of the translator to that of Tantalus and Sisyphus, emphasizing thus the helplessness and powerlessness of his/her role, that can though be overcome by continuous training and serious work. Training therefore competent translators is the only way to ensure the production of high standard translations.
