[...] Santorini island was chosen to be the symposium location of the "Ampelos 2006" Santorini International Symposium, because as well as being one of the most beautiful and unique places in the world, it has a tradition 3.500 years in vineyard cultivation and in the art of wine production. The grapevines ("ambeli" to the local people) on Santorini have a characteristic flavour thanks to the special ecological conditions of this volcanic Aegean island.

A large number of people were involved in the successful organization of this symposium. Firstly, the contribution of both International Programme Committee and Local Organizing Committee members in the symposium planning and execution is greatly appreciated.
