This work of Mrs Dratsellas has been written on purpose to make Orthodox faith to the millions of Orthodox people including converts and catechumens through the great events of the life of our Lord and His Mother; also through the lives of distinguished personalities of the Holy Bible or Church History, most of whose offering to Christianity is not known well or completely unknown.

However, it is absolutely necessary for believers to know what our Lord did for the salvation of men and how the Saints followed Jesus Christ's teaching, example and deeds in general, and tried hard to live a holy life; also to guide people by their sanctity of life. Thus the "great cloud" of Saints - millions of them - help Christians to be faithful members of the Orthodox Church and obey God's will in order to achieve salvation.

But since it is impossible to present all of them, there were chosen from the Church Calendar representative figures of the Bible, the Martyrs, the Church Fathers, the Ascetics etc., so that one may have a complete idea of what that "great cloud" means.
