Δεν έπρεπε να είναι έτσι: το χρήμα \"όλα τα μπορεί\", αλλά δεν μπορεί να παράγει ανθρώπους. Θα έπρεπε λοιπόν να είναι ένα μέσο ανάμεσα σε άλλα. Οπότε, το \"βιολογικό γένος\" μαραίνεται και, κατά συνέπεια, παρακμάζει η συνείδηση. Η εποχή της παραίτησης ακολουθεί, μιας και ο Μαρξ εγκαινιάζει επίσης μια φιλοσοφία του αλλοτριωμένου σώματος.
