Car le point de depart de sa reflexion fut la part active que sa competence technique et scientifique lui permit de prendre, a partir de 1992, a la restauration des tombes recemment decouvertes en Macedoine: c'est donc forte d'une experience visuelle directe de leurs peintures murales, et deja munie d'une extraordinaire documentation photographique, constituee par elle-meme sur place, qu'elle entreprit en 1994 d'en etudier systematiquement les materiaux et les techniques, dans de premiers travaux universitaires dont les resultats prometteurs susciterent immediatement l'interet des specialistes, notamment d' Agnes Rouveret, qui voulut bien la faire beneficier de ses conseils, et fut des lors largement associee a la direction de ses recherches. Η έναρξη όμως των ανασκαφικών ερευνών στον οικισμό σηματοδότησε και την γενικότερη τοπογραφική έρευνα της άγνωστης έως τότε Βόρειας Βοττιαίας.\u003cbr\u003eΟι δοκιμαστικές τομές που πραγματοποιήθηκαν στον οικισμό από τον αρχαιολόγο υπεύθυνο για την επαρχία Γιαννιτσών Παύλο Χρυσοστόμου σε διάφορα σημεία του οικισμού, είχαν αρχικά ως στόχους τον προσδιορισμό του χρόνου και την διάρκεια κατοίκησής του. Μετά τη διαπίστωση κατά τις ανασκαφικές περιόδους 1984-85, ότι ο οικισμός είχε κατοικηθεί διαχρονικά ήδη από τους προϊστορικού ς χρόνους, κρίθηκε απαραίτητη η συνεργασία με τον Ιωάννη Ασλάνη, ερευνητή στο Ινστιτούτο Ελληνικής και Ρωμαϊκής Αρχαιότητας του Εθνικού Ιδρύματος Ερευνών, προκειμένου να μελετηθεί συστηματικότερα το υλικό της Νεολιθικής Χαλκολιθικής εποχής. Παράλληλα, πραγματοποιήθηκε από την αρχαιολόγο Αναστασία Χρυσοστόμου σωστική ανασκαφική έρευνα στην περιοχή του νεκροταφείου της εποχής του Σιδήρου στη θέση \"Αμπέλια\" βόρεια του οικισμού που συμπλήρωσε έως ένα σημείο τα ευρήματα παραδόσεων της εποχής του Σιδήρου από την ίδια περιοχή.\u003cbr\u003eΗ δημοσίευση των αρχαίων ακίνητων και κινητών ευρημάτων της Αγροσυκιάς που χρονολογούνται στους προϊστορικούς και ιστορικούς χρόνους, είναι αποτέλεσμα συνεργασίας της ΙΖ' ΕΠΚΑ Έδεσσας και του ΙΕΡΑ/ΕΙΕ. Η συνεργασία, που, όπως αναφέρθηκε προηγουμένως, άρχισε μετά τις δύο πρώτες ανασκαφικές περιόδους (1984 και 1985) περιέλαβε επίσης μια διευκρινιστική ανασκαφική έρευνα από τους Παύλο Χρυσοστόμου και Ιωάννη Ασλάνη το έτος 1992. Το 1999 επιχειρήθηκε ακόμα μια ολιγοήμερη ανασκαφική έρευνα από τον Παύλο Χρυσοστόμου, που σκοπό είχε την αποκάλυψη του τείχους της νότιας πλευράς του λόφου και τη διαμόρφωση του αρχαιολογικού χώρου, καθώς και την επιβεβαίωση των ανασκαφικών δεδομένων στο ΝΑ. τμήμα του οικισμού, δυτικά της Πύλης.\u003cbr\u003eΗ επεξεργασία του υλικού έγινε παράλληλα. Boubon, the smallest of four cities known to have formed the Cibyratic city league, was identified as late as 1842, subsequent to its three neighbors and partners in that league. Surrounded by high mountain chains, the site of Boubon is situated 20 km south of the modern town of Golhisar, ancient Cibyra, near the small agricultural village of Ibecik and far from the tourist attractions of coastal Lycia and Caria. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eBoubon receives only cursory mention in ancient literary works, and it has been treated similarly in modern scholarship. However, thanks to research by the Turkish archaeologist Jale Inan at the local sanctuary of the Imperial cult, Boubon has recently been established as the origin of a famous group of Imperial bronze statues that had been smuggled out of Turkey in the 1960s. Another consequence of Inan's work has been to draw the attention of the Turkish state to the problem of large-scale illegal excavations in the region. Following the appointment of a site guard, looting at the site has diminished considerably.\u003cbr\u003eAmong the purposes of scholarly research on remote archaeological sites is to underline the necessity of preserving cultural treasures that hold little promise for the tourist industry. In addition, exploration of small cities and villages offers the possibility of counterbalancing the one-sidedness of our sources for the ancient world: since the vast majority of literary authors and their readers lived in large civic centers, and literary works therefore mainly reflect life in those locations, completion of the picture is dependent on epigraphical and archaeological research on smaller communities.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe present volume presents the results of research in the epigraphy and archaeology of Boubon that has been conducted as part of the Cibyratis project under the direction of Thomas Corsten of the University of Heidelberg, in collaboration with the Institute for Greek and Roman Antiquity (KERA) of the Hellenic National Research Foundation (EIE) in Athens and the Department of Geomatics of the University of Karlsruhe, and with permission from the Turkish Ministry of Culture and the General Directorate of Monuments and Museums at Ankara. After a brief initial campaign in 2004, dedicated entirely to the recording of inscriptions at the site and in its immediate surroundings, there followed two survey seasons of three weeks each in August 2005 and in August 2006 in which the main purpose of the participants was to record as many of the architectural remains in Boubon and its territory as possible.
