Σήμερα, στεκόμαστε με θαυμασμό στα έργα που έμειναν -τείχη, προμαχώνες, εκκλησίες, σπίτια, δρόμοι και λογής λογής κτίρια- που μας μεταφέρουν σε κείνους τους καιρούς και καταγράφουν την ιστορία του νησιού.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eΟι ιστορίες όμως των απλών ανθρώπων, οι καημοί τους, τα δάκρυα και οι αναστεναγμοί, οι θυσίες και οι αγώνες τους για ζωή, οι μικρές χαρές και οι ελπίδες δεν γράφτηκαν πουθενά, δεν χαράχτηκαν ανεξίτηλα πάνω στις πέτρες του νησιού.\u003cbr\u003eΤο Λεπροκομείο παραμένει μια πικρή, πονεμένη ανάμνηση. Το οθωμανικό παρελθόν είναι σαφώς εμφανές. Αυτό όμως που εντυπωσιάζει είναι το βενετσιάνικο στοιχείο. Το άλλοτε απόρθητο φρούριο της Σπιναλόγκας, υπερήφανο, εκεί στην είσοδο του κόλπου του Κόρφου, εμπνέει δέος και θαυμασμό, αναδεικνύοντας τους όποιους πολιτισμούς που το επηρέασαν.
